Coulee Dam Credit Union was founded in 1941 in order to serve those working on the Grand Coulee Dam Project. In 2005 the charter was amended to persons who live, work, worship or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located within a fifty mile radius of the Coulee Dam, WA post office—including Douglas, Ferry, Grant, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, and Stevens counties.

Learn The History of CDFCU

  • CDFCU was est. in 1941 with an occupational common bond. The original field of membership was limited to Employees of the Bureau of Reclamation of the United States Department of Interior who were working on the Columbia Basin project.
  • In 1944 the charter was amended to Employees of the Bureau of Reclamation of the United States Department of Interior who were working on the Columbia Basin Project, residents of Coulee Dam, residents within a ten-mile radius and employees of the credit union.
  • In 1957 the charter was amended to Employees of the Bureau of Reclamation of the United States Department of Interior who were working on the Columbia Basin Project, residents of Coulee Dam, residents within a fifteen-mile radius of the Coulee Dam Post Office and employees of the credit union.
  • In 1967 the charter was amended to Employees of the Bureau of Reclamation of the United States Department of Interior who were working on the Columbia Basin Project, residents of Coulee Dam, residents within a fifteen-mile radius of the Coulee Dam Post Office, contractors and employees of contractors who worked regularly with the Department of Interior on the Columbia Basin Project and employees of the credit union.
  • In 1976 the charter was amended to Persons who reside in the geographic areas designated for the following school districts: Coulee Dam, Hartline, Almira, Wilbur, and Creston School Districts; un-remarried spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership and employees of the credit union.
  • In 1978 the charter was amended to include the Nespelem School District and the Keller School District.
  • In 1979 Douglas Federal Credit Union in Bridgeport was in financial difficulties and NCUA proposed and approved a merger between CDFCU and DFCU.
  • The Charter was amended to Persons who reside or work within a fifty mile radius of the Coulee Dam post office; un-remarried spouses of persons who died while within the field of membership and employees of this credit union
  • In 2005 the charter was amended to persons who live, work, worship or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located within a fifty mile radius of the Coulee Dam, WA post office. AND persons who live, work, worship, or attend school in and businesses and other legal entities located within Douglas, Ferry, Grant, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, and Stevens counties, Washington.
